Tips on New Bathroom Designs and Renovations

If you are in the situation where you look at your current bathroom and feel that it is out of date, worn out and needs a new breath of life, you may be considering on updating or renovating the bathroom. There are many things that can be done to revitalise your bathroom but they are generally constrained by your budget. Depending on what available funds you have to put towards updating your bathroom will make a big difference regarding whether you can tear down what you currently have and build a new bathroom from the ground up, or maybe just refinish your surfaces and update a few of the fixtures.

You may be looking to rebuild a new bathroom from scratch, one of the key factors that determine the overall cost is the materials that you will be using for the floors, walls, sinks and cabinets. Selecting appropriately priced materials and tiles will allow you to better determine how much of the overall budget will need to be allocated for specific types of material and how much will be left over for other fixtures and amenities. Sometimes it might not be worth going for a marble sink and counter top when those additional funds can be spent into something more practical like better fixtures or lighting.

Speaking of ventilation, don’t underestimate the importance of ventilation when it comes to designing a new bathroom. It may be one of those things that will not make your bathroom look or feel any better, but it will help to prevent the build-up of mould and mildew which can cause damage in your walls and ceiling. Having a suitably powerful ventilation fan for the size of your bathroom installed into the ceiling is the best option to keep your bathroom in the better condition over time. These fans are usually combined with lighting and heating lamps as well, giving you combined ventilation, lighting and warmth on the colder nights.

A hidden cost when renovating your bathroom that you might not factor into the budget is additional plumbing work. If the current plumbing system is in good working order, then it might not be necessary to put much funds into it. Moving your sink, toilet or shower fixture to a different location within the bathroom will add thousands onto the overall cost of a new bathroom renovation. If you are able to keep your plumbing and fixtures in the same position, it will save you lots of money that you can put elsewhere in the design.
